4 Easy Natural Laundry Swaps you wish you knew earlier
1. Swap Fabric softener for Vinegar
Many people have heard about vinegar as a natural laundry softener alternative but remain doubtful. Does it really work? Doesn’t it make your clothes stink? Trust us, we were too - but it does work. And no, it doesn’t smell!
Simply swap out those artificial fragranced products for white vinegar in your fabric softener drawer. If you can’t handle not having a sweet fragrance, here’s a twist: add in 3 capfuls of Bosisto’s Lavender Solution for a beautifully fragranced final rinse.
If you’re keen to DIY, you can also make your own natural laundry softener – click here for our recipe.
2. Swap harsh chemicals for an ‘Eco’ detergent
One of the most important things you can do is scrutinise the detergent you buy. What you put in your trolley matters!
The best eco-friendly natural laundry detergents are made with plant-based ingredients. Look out for ones which contain no synthetic fragrances or dyes, sodium lauryl sulphate (SLD) or added phosphates.
Bosisto’s Sensitive Laundry Liquid is one that fits the bill – infused with 100% pure Australian Eucalyptus Oil from Inglewood, Victoria.
Really tough stains? There are better choices in ‘performance’ products too. Bosisto’s Power+ Laundry Liquid is a good example – it contains naturally derived Enzymes to help boost results, but still leaves out harsh ingredients.
3. Swap Prewash for Eucalyptus Oil
Did you know you can swap your Prewash for a more natural laundry product? You might be surprised to learn it’s eucalyptus oil – and it’s especially good for grease, oil and perspiration stains. How can an oil get oil out? As a volatile oil, eucalyptus oil is different to other kinds, and in fact it actually works to break down oily compounds. It’s literally a miracle on many stains – try these for starters:
- Grubby shirt collars & sweat stained underarms: Spray with Bosisto’s Eucalyptus Spray and rub in, before washing as normal.
- Grease or oil splatters: Dab on Bosisto’s Eucalyptus Oil directly on the oil stain and leave for 20 minutes-1hour before washing as normal. This hack went viral on Tik Tok recently; it even gets out really old stains!
Always patch test a small area first and follow manufacturers’ washing instructions.
4. Swap Dryer sheets for Essential oils
There’s a literal laundry list (pun intended) of reasons dryer sheets are bad. The chemicals they deposit to make clothes feel softer (Stearic acid) disables the wicking capabilities of activewear, towels and socks. It wreaks havoc on microfibre, and can also make children’s clothes and pyjamas less fire-resistant.They’re terrible for the planet, too. A disposable single use product, dryer sheets also emit high levels of VOC’s (Volatile Organic Compounds) which can potentially affect both air quality and health.
A great natural laundry alternative is dryer balls. We especially love Woollen dryer balls, and here’s our extra twist: Add a few drops of Bosisto’s Eucalyptus Oil on your woollen dryer ball. Your house, clothes, towels & bed linen will smell amazing!
